Tankless Water Heater Flushing FAQ
Have questions before you schedule? Start here.
These answers explain what routine flushing is designed to do and what to expect when you book with Royal Flush.
What is a tankless water heater flush?
A flush circulates a cleaning solution through the water heater to help loosen and remove calcium/mineral buildup inside the unit’s water pathway. We use a vinegar-based process for routine flushing.
Why does a tankless water heater need flushing?
Calcium and other minerals in the water can collect inside the heat exchanger over time. Routine flushing can help reduce that buildup, support normal water flow and heat transfer, and keep up with the unit’s maintenance needs.
How often should my unit be flushed?
Annual service is highly recommended, especially in hard-water areas, but the right schedule depends on the manufacturer, model, water quality, household use and any water-treatment equipment. Feel free to ask us about the best interval for your tankless water heater.

Will flushing fix a unit that is not producing hot water?
Not necessarily. Flushing is primarily preventive maintenance. A no-hot-water condition, error code, leak, or shutdown can have several causes and may require an in-depth diagnosis or repair. But we are happy to be your first stop for any questions about your unit.
What is included in the service?
The planned service includes a vinegar-based flush, a visual review of accessible components and connections, a fresh-water rinse and restart, a basic post-service operational check, and maintenance observations or reminder support. Service also includes cleaning of the air filter, inlet water filter, and a cleaning/wipedown of the unit inside and out. Flame rods and Ignitor rods can be cleaned upon request for an additional charge.
How much does service cost?
Royal Flush offers a first-time residential flush for a special price of $100. Routine service for returning residential customers is $150. Homes with multiple units, additional filters or equipment may require a different scope; any added/reduced cost will be confirmed before service.
The advertised $100 first-time flush applies to one qualifying residential tankless water heater only. Commercial, multi-unit and industrial properties require custom pricing based on the number of systems, property type, equipment, service requirements and scheduling needs.
Property managers, facility managers, builders and business owners can contact us for a customized quote.

The selection applies the correct service type and price. Choose “new customer” for your first Royal Flush appointment and “returning customer” if we have serviced your unit before.

Do I still need maintenance if I have a water softener or scale-control system?
Water-treatment equipment may reduce scale, but maintenance needs still depend on the unit, the equipment and manufacturer guidance. Feel free to reach out to us to ask us about a schedule that fits your setup.
